Solution for Framing Oddly Shaped Art

Have you ever gotten a card you wanted to frame, or a funky piece of art, but it was oddly shaped? Now I have the solution for framing oddly shaped art or cards or whatever you want to celebrate!

I was so lucky to have a beautiful Mother’s Day, filled with waffles in bed and cards and hugs. Both kids made cards for me, and I love them. So, naturally, I wanted to frame them.

The problem is that they are not standard shapes to fit in a frame. I tried an 8×10 frame, but it was too small, and the 11×14 was too big, and I didn’t have any material to make a mat.

My solution for framing oddly shaped art??

Paint!

I used a frame from Ikea for this project. I painted the back board of the frame with high gloss craft paint, like this one, using a small foam roller, like this one.

It took about three coats to get even coverage.

It says I’m the “best mom in the wrlde.” Awesome. Can’t beat that.

So, the next time you have oddly shaped art to frame, don’t stress about the frame size or a mat. Just pick the frame you want and paint the back board of the frame a complementary color. Or just use whatever paint you have! This is a great project to use up some paint you have left over from another project.

Easy peasy.
