Dining Room Progress

Happy Monday, everyone! Hope you had a great weekend!

Over the weekend, I made some progress in the dining room. First, I sold the two gray Cynthia Rowley more formal chairs and the desk/table that didn’t fit in the space. The money from the sales will go directly into the “dining room storage that fits in the room” fund.

Then, I emptied the room and cleaned the room stem to stern.

Once clean, I started adding things back into the room. Although I want to replace the rug eventually, for now it stays, for two reasons: (1) budget – it’s not in the budget right now to change it; and (2) Bear – to be candid, she’s an old dog and she makes “messes” from time to time, usually in this room. This rug is really easy to clean, so it stays for now.

I added back the table and chairs and moved the chest from the left side of the chimney to the right.

When I first bought that chest, I put it where it is in the picture above and loved it there – it looked like it was made for that space. But then, when I moved the big buffet against the windows – because it was the only place it fit in the room – I had to move the chest to the left side to balance the room.

Now that I’m selling the buffet, I can move the chest back to its original spot. I added my globe collection because, well, I love the globes and I like having them where I can see them each day. Before, they were on top of the lockers in the kids’ hallway.

So, that’s where I am now on the dining room progress. Here are the next steps:

  1. Find storage that better fits in the space. I’m thinking (this is an affiliate link, but I really do want this cabinet ->) this cabinet from World Market on the left side of the room (where the chest was, but against the adjacent wall).
  2. Once the furniture is in, hang stuff on the walls. The fork and spoon and the silverware print are still there – they haven’t moved. I hung the big basket from the Ballard estate sale on the left side of the doorway, but I’m not sure if it will stay there. I really like the texture, but I’ll have to see what storage I end up with to decide if it stays there.

What do you think?

I love the metal storage cabinet you are looking at from World Market. It’ll be great for your informal feel. Your globe collection looks great, too. How about a vintage map hanging on the wall behind them? It could be of the world, the U.S. or your state! It is going to be fun to follow your progress. I admire how quickly you sold those chairs! Did you sell them on line? If you did, maybe a Friday 5 could be five things to know about or steps to follow for selling on-line. I’ve never done it. I guess when you set your mind to doing something, you don’t waste time! Way to go!

Thank you, Karen! I do have a vintage map and it was in the dining room, but it doesn’t fit on that wall space (too big). I might have something similar, though – great idea! (I love maps!) Thank you for the idea re a post about selling on-line! I’m on it!
