Happy Friday! Today’s Friday Five is Five Trends We’re OVER. If you follow me on Facebook, I asked what design trends you wish were history. I asked; you answered. Here they are: the top five trends we’re done with:
1. Mason Jars
First, you could decorate with them. Then, you could put whole meals in them. You can paint them, you can glitter them, you can find them in several colors. Enough already.
Disclaimer: I love mason jars for food storage and I have one I use as a soap dispenser. But I don’t want eight colors of them or have them in every room of my home. And, from what y’all said, you don’t, either.
2. Chevron Pattern
Chevron is the zigzag pattern that reminds me of Charlie Brown’s shirt. This pattern appeared everywhere – from bedding to chairs to lampshades. Even the back of my built-ins at my old house:
But it has had its day. Time to move on to a new fab pattern.
3. Anything Made from Pallets
Pallets are plentiful and free, so they’ve been used for all kinds of projects. Furniture, walls, and storage can all be made from pallets. That said, pallets can be treated with chemicals, or be really dirty, and aren’t for everyone.
4. “Instructional” Signs
I admit that I love cute signs. But I agree that there are too many of them out there in decor right now.
I mean, if you need a sign to tell you to breathe, maybe you need more than just a sign. #justsayin
5. “Keep Calm” Signs
You know the signs I’m talking about: Keep Calm and Rock On, Keep Calm and Eat a Cupcake, etc. I liked this one:
So, those are the top five design trends you are ready to see go. What else would you include on this list? Please share in the comments.
