Planning Musical Rooms

No, we’re not adding a music room. Musical rooms…like musical chairs. I thought I’d share with you plans for the big room move-around, coming up in May.

The great room move-around is the big idea to give my daughter a bigger room. Right now she has the smallest bedroom, but she actually likes playing in her room. Even with this rearrangement of the furniture:

She still makes a huge mess and does not have a lot of space in which to play.

Our current master bedroom is really a mirror (well, sideways mirror) image of my son’s room.

So, the idea is to move my daughter into what is now the master, move the master bedroom to the “real” master bedroom downstairs, which is now the guest room:

And move the guest room to the smallest bedroom/my daughter’s current room.

I always have to have a plan, so I’ve written it all out in my handy-dandy trusty-dusty spiral notebook. (One day I will write a post about how I am never without a spiral notebook, but that’s another topic for another day.) There’s just a lot to do, so I feel better if I write it all down and can cross things off the list.

Here’s the list, so far:

Master to Current Guest Room

Do something with the bathroom (still up in the air; looking into making this big bathroom into a powder room and master suite bath – because it’s the only bathroom on our first floor);

add crown molding to room

touch up wall paint; stencil accent wall

hang curtains

organize closet: add second clothes bar; adjust shelves

move furniture downstairs

Guest Room to M’s Current Room

paint over the big green stripe (!! Can you say “primer,” anyone?)

paint the walls a normal color

window coverings/curtains hung

bed moved upstairs from downstairs

dresser and chest from D’s room to this room

move suitcases to one closet and out of D’s closet

dresser in current guest room to D’s room

add TV/cable

M’s Room to Current Master

paint walls (green stripe again?)

need two more window shades

move all her furniture in here

paint desk

turn second closet into play fort/reading nook

paint bathroom, including trim

So, that’s the plan. I am starting to think about a timeline for when to start all this mayhem; I have to get my final papers graded first and then it’s full steam ahead.

I’ll update you on the plans for the master bath/powder room in a post coming up soon.

Thanks for stopping by!

Holey Moley, woman. I’m tired just reading all this . . . can’t imagine taking it all on at once! But won’t it be wonderful when you’re done! Although the rooms are nice right now too . . . especially all the pretty greens in your daughter’s room.

I know – it’s going to be massive. That said, I have the summer to complete it all – that’s the joy of being a teacher! I’m just going to take it bit by bit and do what I can. There will be updates along the way, of course!
