Here in Georgia this morning, we’re waiting on an ice storm. Me? I’m dreaming of spring. So, when I was asked to host one of the Michaels Pinterest Parties this weekend, I immediately wanted to do a project to welcome in spring.

Spring has sprung! Well, not exactly, but it’s a fun project to make in anticipation of spring.

Head to your local Michaels on Sunday, February 16, from 1-4 PM, to make this banner and other fun Pinterest-inspired projects.  I’ll be at the Tucker/Northlake Michaels this Sunday, ready to help you get your craft on! Check out the Pinterest displays in the store, buy your supplies, and then come on in to the classroom and complete your pin-worthy project.

How to Make a Chalkboard Banner

This is an easy project that can be customized to any occasion or message.

Supplies Needed:

Chalkboard paper banners (I used Recollections Chalkboard Paper Banners)

Chalk markers (I used Craft Smart Chalk Marker Set)

Optional: stencils

The chalk markers work like paint pens. You have to press down on the tips (use a scrap piece of paper or cardboard for this, as I did in the picture above) to prime the marker. Once you’ve got the marker’s paint flowing, create your design on the chalkboard paper.

I used stencils, but you could freehand a design as well.

The chalk markers come in different colors – I used white, red, and yellow for this project.

The great thing about the chalkboard paper is that it wipes clean if you make a mistake or a stray mark. The chalk markers are wet-erasable. Just use a damp towel and it comes right off.

Once you’ve completed your design, just tear the paper off the pad at the perforations…

…and then put the twine that comes with the pad through the holes in the paper.

Hang in your favorite spot and enjoy!

While I was at Michaels, I also bought a glass jar and some chalkboard labels, along with some colorful egg decorations. I added two little jars with chalkboard labels, also from Michaels, and my spring-inspired mantel was complete.
