It’s almost Halloween…time for some spooky decorations and treats!

I’ll show you how to make these easy and spooky candy jars. And I have a “trick and treat” at the end for you!

Materials Needed:

• 2 glass jars – I used pasta sauce jars, but you could use any good-sized jar with a metal lid.
• 2 candlesticks with flat tops (where the theoretical candle would go) – I found mine at Goodwill for $1.21 for the pair.
• spray paint in the color of your choice to paint the lids of the jars (and the candlesticks, if you choose). I always use Rust-Oleum spray paint (they didn’t pay me to say that – seriously, it’s the best!)
• magnets – I bought small, round magnets
• glue gun
• decorations for the top. I used plastic eyeballs from the dollar store, but you could use spiders, skulls, anything spooky.

Directions:

(1) Paint the lids.

Take the candlesticks and jar lids outside and spray paint them in the color you chose. It took me two light coats to cover each. I chose gloss black spray paint because I wanted something I could use for other holidays as well – more on that in a bit.

(2) Glue the jars to the candlesticks.

After the paint dries, if the candlestick has a pointy thing on it to hold the candle (mine did), snip it off with a wire cutter or just wiggle it with pliers until it comes off. You want a flat surface on which to put your jar.

Then, I used a hot glue gun to glue the jar to the candlestick. Press down gently but firmly and let dry.

(3) Glue a magnet to the holiday decoration.

Meanwhile, glue one magnet to the eyeball or decoration of your choice, again, using the hot glue gun. Let dry.

After it dries, put the magnet on the jar lid.

(4) Fill with candy!

Fill with candy and tell your kids that the jars are watching them! (Kidding…sort of.)

Now, for the “trick and treat”!

Because the decorations are attached with just a little magnet, you can change them for each holiday or time of the year! How awesome is that?!?

Maybe glue an ornament to a magnet and place on the lid for Christmas, or a plastic egg or bunny for Easter…you get the idea. The options are endless! That’s why I painted the lids and candlesticks black; that way, I could change the decoration and the color wouldn’t look wonky.
