Christmas in July: Barking Up a Different Christmas Tree

Welcome to Christmas in July at Dogs Don’t Eat Pizza HQ! I am excited to be contributing to this series with such talented bloggers!

We approach Christmas a little differently here at HQ. We celebrate both Hanukah and Christmas, as I explain in this post. We have a menorah, but we also have a tree.

And our Christmas tree, well, it’s a “faux” tree because the boys in our house are allergic to the real ones. Artificial. From Target (all good things come from Target – am I right?).

Pretty, but still a traditional tree.

I’ve been thinking about changing things up with our tree at our home. Something different, non-traditional, funky. So today I thought I’d give you some ideas for different, non-traditional Christmas trees.

Trees Made from Craft Supplies

I love this wrapping paper roll tree from A Little Tipsy:

How about a felt Christmas tree, from Forestry Handmade and featured on Mommy Footprint.com?

What about wine cork Christmas trees?

I think those would be adorable as table decorations. What a great reason to drink more wine!

And this wire tree with ornaments looks easy to make, but so festive:

Books as Christmas Trees

Sure, books are made of trees, but can you make trees out of books?

Other Ideas?

How about a ladder for a tree? Kelly at Eclectically Vintage made this one, and I love it!

Washi tape:

That would be perfect for someone renting their home – totally removable and changeable.

Or FOOD!

Healthy and festive.

There you have it…when Christmas rolls around later this year, consider some other, non-traditional trees in your home. What I like about these ideas are: (1) most of them use things you probably already have in your home; and (2) you can incorporate them into your holiday decor AND still have a traditional tree. Score!

Super duper cute ideas, Karen! The little wine cork trees have to be my favorite! FUN! When I was in college, we decorated a tall fan that we had as our Christmas tree…we threw some lights on it and put our presents to each other under it. It was actually pretty cute, but no one was allowed to turn the fan on! Thanks for sharing such a great round up! 🙂

A cute idea I used last Christmas was to take my kids’ tinker toys and make a table-top tree for their game room. I saw it on Pinterest….and it turned out so cute!

If I win the gift card, I’ll get ahead by making some gift purchases! I’ve never been able to get all my shopping done by Thanksgiving, but it’s a goal I set every year! 😉

That’s a great idea! We’ll have to try that with our tinker toys this year! Thank you!
