After the Rains

We had a break in the rain this morning, so I thought I would venture outside. I love how everything looks so verdant and bright after the rains stopped!  I was inspired to take some pictures of the yard and garden – the rain will be back soon, so this was my big chance.

Gardenia – I love their smell! They were my grandmother’s favorite.

Hydrangea are my favorites. I love the bursts of color.

Mmmm…fresh basil. Perfect torn up in a watermelon salad – add feta and a drizzle of olive oil for the perfect summer treat.

Tomatoes are coming…just not yet. Marigolds fend off bugs.

Carolina jasmine – smells heavenly when blooming!

Magnolia blooms.

Daylilies might be my second favorite, behind hydrangeas. I love the colors.

Started to rain again…time to head back inside.

Now that we’re in the 1929 house, I miss my garden from our old house. I’m working on making the yard and garden here just as beautiful. Stay tuned!

Love the magnolia. Surprisingly, I have a small one of those in my yard. Some previous idiot owner planted it right up against the house, under the eaves of the garage, so I can’t let it get very big. I cherish the few flowers it gets. Feels so Southern to me.

Wow – a magnolia in New England! It’s so quintessentially Southern to me.

Your flowers are so pretty! Everything looks so lush and healthy. Last year at this time it was already really dry.

Pretty flowers AND pretty dogs 🙂 I love your blue hydrangeas 🙂 Mine aren’t blooming yet, but there are loads of flower heads on the plant. Which is a relief because it only had two flower heads last summer and I was worried my beautiful blue hydrangeas were doomed!

Thanks, Kelly! I had the same worry about our hydrangeas – not many blooms last year, but this year, because of the rains, they have exploded. Yours are going to look great soon with all those blooms!
