Easy Garland…and it was FREE!

This weekend, we had a family-togetherness-kind-of-weekend.  Lots of cuddling.  Lots of down time.  And, of course, a trip to Target and the grocery store.
When we got to our local Whole Foods market, I was excited to find that they were giving away branches that had been cut away from the Christmas trees they were selling.  Free!  Wahoo! I love free!
We grabbed some freshly cut branches and headed home, my kids thinking that I was slightly nutty for bringing these discarded branches home.
My daughter and I found some floral indoor-outdoor ribbon we already had and voila!

Garland!  Ooooh, and it smells so good.

We just tied it to the railing with some indoor-outdoor red velveteen ribbon I had.

We layered it, so that you can’t see the cut ends of the branches.

And then we played football in the yard.
Festive, fragrant, and free! The best kind of Christmas decorating! Just check outside a grocery store selling trees or even a local tree lot and see if they’ll give you some of the branches that have been discarded. They make the perfect garland for stair railings!
