Dogs Don't Eat Pizza

Hello friends! I know it’s been quiet here at HQ lately – my kids were on fall break (yes, already!) and we took off for the week!

First, we went to Chicago. Half of my family is from Chicago, and it’s always been one of my favorite cities. My kids loved the museums, and we all loved the boat tour of Chicago architecture on the river.

I love the color, structure, and lines of the bridge supports – you can find beauty in even the most ordinary structures.

There is a map of Chicago and the river on the side of this building. It even has a red “You Are Here” button!

Our tour guide said that the Swedish architect of this building designed it with yellow accents to add color to the gray Chicago landscape. In winter or any time it’s cold and gray, the yellow stands out to brighten everyone’s day!

These “corn cob” buildings are famous. Known as “Marina City,” they were designed to be a city within a city – with shops, restaurants, homes, parking, a marina, and more. You’ve probably seen them in advertisements and even on a Wilco album cover.

After Chicago, we drove to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I went to law school. We toured campus, ate yummy food at Zingerman’s, and went to the football game on Saturday, before returning home Sunday.

It was a fun week, but I’m ready to get back to work in my home! I officially got the word yesterday that I can ease back into activities now that my ankle is healing. Of course, “ease” is the operative word here. So, no getting up on ladders yet, but soon!

In the meantime, I’ve been thinking about some posts I want to write, including: a series of how to “shop” your home to redecorate; refocusing on “green” decor, including upcycling and repurposing; and how to be more environmentally conscious at home. I’m also participating again in Swap It Like It’s Hot – and I can’t wait to show you that project!

So, now that vacation is over and I’m back at it, stay tuned for some fun posts!
