Choosing a Navy Blue Paint Color

Over the weekend, I bought paint samples for the guest bathroom. I chose three navy blue colors from Benjamin Moore – all from the same paint chip, which means they’re in the same color family: Hale Navy, Newburyport Blue, and Van Deusen Blue.

That picture was taken in the late afternoon, right after I painted the samples on the wall.

In that light, I was thinking that Hale Navy was too dark, and posted to Instagram that I thought that Newburyport Blue was the clear leader at that point.

Then, when I got up this morning…

Hale Navy made a comeback! I was kind of loving it.

Hale Navy is much more of a true navy. Newburyport and Van Deusen both have some gray and/or red in them that make them lighter.

I didn’t like Van Deusen at all yesterday, but it looks more blue-ish this morning and I’m liking it more.

So, bottom line: I’m still not sure. I’m leaning toward thinking that Hale Navy is too dark, but with bright white trim and walls underneath it, it might not be. And I think Hale Navy is my favorite color of the three. I just have to decide if I will like it on all four walls.

For other changes I’m making to the guest bathroom, please see THIS POST.

Have a happy 4th of July, everyone!

I love the Hale Navy. We are thinking of painting our exterior ( east facing home ) with it and trim in Pale Oak.
I’m just a tad nervous that it may be too dark . Our neighbors all have gray houses. We thought that the Hale Navy may complement the neighborhood.
    Any advise is welcome !
