In light of my farmhouse style herb garden posted yesterday, I thought, for today’s Friday Five, I’d show you five more fun chalkboard paint projects. Chalkboard paint now comes in the traditional black finish, but also in green, clear, or even as a tintable base. That means chalkboards can be any color you want (which I love!).

Honest and for true, the best chalkboard paint around is Rust-Oleum’s. And they didn’t pay me to say that! I have tried every brand of chalkboard paint and, for real, this one is the best. It covers better than the others and the finish is smooth and easy to write on and to erase. Trust me on this.

OK, here’s The Friday Five: Five Chalkboard Paint Projects…

1. Duh…a Chalkboard.

I made this chalkboard as a countdown board for Christmas.

But we use it for notes, reminders, and other countdowns (like birthdays). All I did was paint a piece of plywood with chalkboard paint, and then used old yard sticks as trim. You can click on the photo for the whole tutorial of how I made it.

2. Kitchen Backsplash

In the first kitchen makeover, I painted our backsplash with chalkboard paint.

It was fun writing cute little notes and our menu for the week, and it was remarkably easy to clean. I liked it, but ended up painting over it because I wanted to make the kitchen as light and bright as possible. That said, I did love having it. It’s an easy, cool idea for a backsplash.

3. Plant Markers

When I found a bag of chandelier pieces at this estate sale, I knew for what I’d use them: plant markers.

The little bird is my favorite. I just painted the little wooden pieces with two coats of chalkboard paint (black finish).  I wrote the name of the herbs on them with chalk marker. I love how I can erase them if I want to change them around or plant something new.

4. Cart or Table Top

Turn a table top or cart top into a fun place to write. I did that with my bar cart:

I’ve even seen dining tables painted with a chalkboard top. Write fun messages or label what you’re eating and drinking – it’s all good!

5. Chalkboard Tags (or labels)

I painted some manila paper tags (you can get them at any office supply store) with chalkboard spray paint and made chalkboard tags.

This is a super-easy project! In fact, I kind of went overboard when I did this project and painted a whole slew of tags! I ended up giving some to a friend, so it worked out. I love these tags because they can be tied onto baskets or bins (they attach with wire), and they’re erasable/reusable!
