Somehow, in an apparent mystery, our kids’ bathroom’s toilet seat was broken. No one has claimed responsibility for the act; however, the darned thing was ripped from its hinges and would stay on the toilet no more.
Tonight, after dinner, the kiddos (one of whom is most certainly the perpetrator here) and I piled in the car and went to Home Depot in search of a new toilet seat.
Let me tell you…you can learn a lot from kids in the toilet section of a hardware store.
First of all, they were completely mystified by all the choices of toilet seats.
My son pointed to one with the vinyl cushy top and asked, “Why would anyone want to sit on this?”
Then he saw the one with wood grain.

“Mom, we should get the wooden seat!”
My five-year old daughter considered this. “No, dude. We’d get splinters in our butts!”
We chose a lovely white plastic seat and moved on.
My daughter watched me install the new seat. As I usually do, I explained to her that she can use tools as well as any boy and that she should never let anyone tell her to “let a boy do it” when it comes to fixing things.
She said, “I know, Mom. I even already know how to use a hammer. I even know to scream when I hit my thumb with the hammer, just like you did once.”
Well, at least she’s paying attention.
Thank you for stopping by.
